Pneumonia can infect your lungs and airways

Pneumonia is like a sickness that can get into your lungs and the tubes that help you breathe. It makes it hard for you to breathe and can make you feel really sick. It’s caused by germs like bacteria or viruses, and your body tries to fight them off, but sometimes it needs some extra help, like medicine, to get better.

Pneumonia is when those spongy parts of your lungs get infected by tiny things called germs. These germs can be bacteria or viruses. They sneak into your lungs and start causing trouble. Your body’s natural defense system tries to fight them off, but sometimes it’s not strong enough, especially if you’re not feeling well or if your immune system isn’t working at its best some specific points about pneumonia:

1. Lungs and Airways: Your lungs are like big sponges in your chest that help you breathe. Air comes in through tubes called airways and goes into your lungs.

2. Infection: Pneumonia happens when tiny things called germs, like bacteria or viruses, get inside your lungs and cause problems.

3. Breathing Trouble: When your lungs get infected, they can become inflamed (swollen) and fill up with fluid or mucus. This makes it hard to breathe because the air can’t move freely.

4. Coughing: Because your lungs are irritated, you might start coughing a lot. Your body does this to try to clear out the mucus and germs.

5. Fever: Sometimes, your body’s temperature goes up when you’re sick. This is called a fever, and it’s a way your body fights off the infection.

6. Body’s Defense: Your body’s immune system tries to fight the germs causing pneumonia. But sometimes, especially if you’re not feeling well or if your immune system isn’t strong, you need help from medicines.

7. Antibiotics and Antiviral Drugs: Doctors can give you special medicines. Antibiotics work against bacterial germs, and antiviral drugs work against viral germs. These medicines help your body fight the infection.
